Printworks Mill, pre-restore (abundantly profane)

Preservation Greensboro's Urban Archaeology Tour:

we were able to snag spots on the hottest tour of the autumn.
this abandoned mill has received National Historic Registration
& will be renovated to include primarily housing
starting in early 2018.
plan is for access/connection
to the newly-renovated Revolution Mill (to the west)
via existing rail line path.

in late 1800s, this site was location of carpet factory,
then was purchased by the Cone brothers
& expanded as part of Cone textile empire.
Print Works added print to the textiles produced
at the neighboring cotton mills
(Revolution & White Oak)

i hear the next tour is full with a waiting list ~
hope they offer more!
they plan on trying to preserve some of the art,
but what a treat to see it before.

near the ararat

Saturdays in October
are mountain-made,
so we headed there.
 one of hubby's go-to stations
had an open house
while they broadcast.
small audience
of four;
we were two.
David & Ivy ~ the South Carolina Broadcasters
 SCB harmonies

it was like stepping back in time
 the lobby view
l-r: wife of bass player for next group; couple from Davidson; me (Mike behind camera)
Ivy (on left) mc'd the next group
she's running for mayor, too

on our walk down Main Street...Craftsman swoon with green roof to boot!
 Autumn Leaves Festival
Mike enters the fray

at the public library book sale, one stood out for me.
we ate at Barney's, but we've been here before, too
didn't intend to walk away with anything,
but this double whirligig became my birthday gift :)
that & Mike carrying it all the way back to our car
without decapitating anyone.
the guy advised it was best to carry it intact...
(the whirligig comes off)
but i am now wondering if that is how he gets his kicks.
happy pumpkin days!

& the trumpets!

Samuel is doing marching band at NCSU this fall,
so we thought we'd go check it out!
we picked up my dad in the Whole Foods parking lot,
paid $15 to park in someone's yard,
& hoofed it to Carter-Finley....

overhearing me, you'd think i kept sighting a rare bird!
oh! there he is!!!

we had lots of fun in the sun
following the band around the stadium
& watching them rehearse different routines.
so much fun in the sun
that we felt no need to stay for the game.

we were just there to see our favorite trumpeter, of course.

sparkling drumline at wolf fountain

Samuel & co. marching into red&white sunshine

not to overlook the arriving football team!

if you find me in my straw bonnet, you will see Samuel directly in front :)

this is actually from our Labor Day visit...but my mother always sets a pretty table!
tossing in a couple of photos from Labor Day,
when we visited in Raleigh on the way to
returning Joseph to NCSSM.
