boy loves soccer

Foreward
after a fall of only school-related activities & an entire year's break from playing soccer, Joseph is back on the field.  he's trying a new venue and a new coach...a team full of strangers & co-ed to boot!  for us, it means hours in whatever weather happens to be occurring during twice-weekly practices & weekly games.  luckily, today lived up to being the first full day of spring ~ sunshine, a breeze, and blossoming trees!  and it was so much fun watching Joseph do one of the things he loves....playing soccer!!!

(but, since this is my blog, i will start with the pretty flowers)
the fields are under the flight path of planes coming into the airport.  thankfully, they are slightly more distant than at one of Joseph's past soccer locations, where the planes literally felt as if they were going to land on top of us.

for some inexplicable reason, Joseph has always enjoyed playing goalie.  it is the one position that feels the weight of every save or loss.  & the absolutely most stressful position on the field for any soccer parent.  luckily, this team seems just happy everyone's giving a good effort and having a good time.
i was surprised to realize that, even as a preschooler, Joseph played on boy-only soccer teams (lest you become distressed, there were also girl-only ones).  it was just what the soccer clubs did, and i didn't even bat an eye.  (and, as i type this, i am also struck with the fact that he played on a soccer team as a preschooler.  that's pretty bizarre, really, when you think about it.  ah, adult-organized American play.)
a great video clip of Joseph
bringing the ball down field
towards the goal!

it was a great game with two evenly-matched teams.
Joseph's team ended up winning 4-3.
& the flowers were sooooo pretty.

Afterthought
when this most recent coach asked me how long Joseph had played soccer, i replied with what i felt was accurate by saying "oh, off-and-on since he was three or four."  today, i went back through our photos to see if i was right.  turns out, he's played just about every single year since he was four.  that's quite a lot of soccer-playing!  (he has been going to soccer games since he was a toddler, when his older brother played.)

before the pARTy

"we go there more than we go to k&w."
which is definitely a high water mark.
we love k&w.
(it's got to be one of the best places
to take a family with widely varying appetites.)

and (apparently only some of us) also love the art museum.
naturally, that didn't stop us.
you know i practically swooned in front of all this GREEN.

 bewitched & bedazzled.
gorgeous.

 i've long admired this one.
although titled pigeon
(and is a dali-inspired woman),
it has always more resembled a cell to me.

another beautiful piece of glass.

i've always liked this one, too.

 oh!  and this one!

 look at that fantastic cape!

 & this silvery dress.

 just wow.

after being trailed through most of the galleries
by somewhat detached participants,
they finally reversed the pattern
(while simultaneously keeping up with
multiple basketball games on their ipods.)

then we went to the party.
