roof over our heads

it's amazing to realize we've been in our current house for eleven years now.  really, longer than we have (any one of us) lived in any other house (at least if you don't count the somewhat migratory college years, which do tack on some time to each of our late-childhood homes).  as we have no intention or anticipation of moving, it is entirely likely we will be in this house for many more years to come.

we are only the second owners, having purchased the house from the couple who built it in 1950.  we think it was originally a white house with green shutters and door.  when we moved in, the owners had adopted a beige/blue combination...and i have been desperately reintroducing green (or, really, anything but blue!) anywhere and everywhere as quickly as i can.

and it was finally time for a new roof.
lo-and-behold, we discovered the original roof was green!
hidden under sun-bleached brown tiles,
was a lovely moss green.
 well.....
we didn't go with green.
that's a pretty big commitment
to live with
for thirty years.
 weathered wood
not black
not gray
not green
not brown
~
can't quite put a finger
on the color,
but it is
just right.

 just in time
to re-paint the shutters this summer.
 green, of course.

p.s. the birds are glad the roofers are gone.
(& this proves i can write a blog post
on just about anything.)
