senior year, i am discovering, is this incompatible dance between
staying focused on the present - to relish the lasts -
& yearning for the future - and all the promising, tantalizing
possibilities it holds.
visiting prospective universities with Samuel
has been radar-focused on atmospheric science programs,
which makes it both easy (just a trio of options)
& a little more stressful (just a trio of options).
in the spring,
he visited the UNCs in Asheville & Charlotte.
this month, the final visit:
Go, Pack!
it is a fairly familiar campus to him,
since most visits to Raleigh to stay with my parents
entailed a trek across campus to the gym,
where ping-pong or squash awaited
two energetic boys.
ever since we toured the new Hunt Library
a couple of years ago,
i've noticed the 'chair' theme at NC State.
the new student union didn't disappoint!
the classic: swivel chairs
wolves everywhere you look!
our walking tour took us through
the tunnel of free expression,
which i remember walking through
as a kid.
at the other end,
the brickyard & my dad's old building,
Harrelson Hall -
slated for demolition soon
due to being a circle.
touring a dorm....aaahWOOO!
near the new student union
& a structure called
the bird cage?
the chicken wire tube?
the if you build it they will climb it?

| Samuel, Mom, Joseph |
the grandparents came to collect Joseph
before Samuel headed to a meeting
at the atmospheric sciences department.
| Mike & Dad |
always good to check out the faculty
& see their areas of interest!
tornadoes? check!
hurricanes? check!
floods? check!
blizzards? check!
climate? check!
there's something for everyone!
we snuck into a classroom,
& Samuel got a sneak-peak at the curriculum.
he looks happy :)
he (we) had a great conversation
with the program director of MEAS
(Marine, Environmental, & Atmospheric Sciences Department)
in Jordan Hall

a great visit to the campus!
and now?
he waits.
last good-bye's at Mom & Dad's
before heading home....
stay tuned for application results,
hopefully by the end of January!
