this is the time of the year i stand back
and let nature take it's course.
oh, wait.
that's my gardening approach most of the year, really.
but, in the spring, it is most definitely the case!
i want to see what survived,
what thrived,
what multiplied,
and what perished.
i'm seeing fewer little daisies this year.
or, rather, the stems and leaves frequently remain
while the tender (and, apparently, delicious) flowers
are ravenously consumed by our garden rabbits.
patches of this little purple shamrock
are popping up more and more,
spreading from the back of the house
and out into the grass.
and, today, i found a few wild strawberries
in the yard.
this year has, also, brought
a wee yellow buttercup,
which i hope likes it here
and decides to stay.
the only one of these that was, likely, planted
is the lily of the valley
sheltered along the west side of the house.
this...
i bring inside.
the start of my scented spring
were the lilacs.
now, lily of the valley
infuses the house.
and soon (so soon!)
the peonies will burst open...
