little long mountain

i appreciate the naming of
 - little long mountain -
as this was how inventive i was
in naming some of my children's
earliest stuffed animals,
such as
- green dog -
(it was a dog that was green)
- seesaw -
which was lucky enough
to have that name on its tag
but otherwise would have been
- red horse -
and so forth

i'm not sure of my aversion
(inability?)
to naming things
other than what they are

so, i appreciate the name of the trail we took
in the Uwharrie Mountains
last weekend
- just what it is -

a portion of the trail
is made of milky quartz

we got to the top!
then continued on,
trying to get to
Jumpin' Off Rock

along our way

there was remarkably little visible wildlife
so i spent some time
with this spider

the Poison Fork

it had rained quite a bit recently,
so we were glad for our hiking boots!

small stream

another crooked tree, perhaps pointing the way?

we stopped at the Pisgah Road Covered Bridge,
which was apparently built in 1911 for $40
