a Prairie Home Family!

Minneapolis.
where the women are strong, the men are good-looking,
and the children are all above-average.

it's true, don'tcha know?  yep.  you betcha!

one of my cousins lives in Minneapolis (she married a local boy), and i was sooooo happy to get to spend some time with her!  she and her daughter met us at the Prairie Home Companion 40th Anniversary fete on the campus of Macalester College in St. Paul &, later, we enjoyed their gracious hospitality for the evening.

we (Mike, in particular) have been fans of Garrison Keillor for many years, so we were thrilled that our visit to Minneapolis happened to coincide with a big 40th birthday bash for the radio show!  we enjoyed lots of music & memories that afternoon.
you could pay for a lawn ticket OR loiter just beyond the fence & hear all the same music.  (photo by Mike)

Q&A with Garrison Keillor

standing room only.

some of the original cast members
we were primarily there to hear some of the music, including Iris Dement, Gillian Welch, & David Rawlings (as well as Old Crow Medicine Show).  they did not disappoint!

no idea who this is, but he struck a pose.
fantastical ice-cream man
Samuel got a 'birthday cake' ice-cream sandwich & Joseph got a 'leprechaun's dreamcycle' - yum!
(seriously, go to this link to read more about this guy.)

then it was just perfect to spend some time
with my cousin and her family!
Beth's mother is my father's oldest sister.
 the boys enjoyed the pool

Dave, Beth, me, and Mike (photographed by Dave's sweet mom, who joined us for dinner)
at dinner, Dave's mom, Emilie, revealed that she had been a chambermaid back in the 1950's at the Many Glacier Hotel!  then we discovered that her father had worked at the same hotel in the 1920's!  we already knew that Beth and Dave met while working in another area of the park & had enjoyed finding them some Glacier-themed trinkets.  what a Glacier legacy!
i'm not sure they knew what they were getting into when they asked to see our trip photos....
it was much too short a visit - and we loved every minute!
