twenty-thirteen was a good, solid year for the four of us. i don't say that to dismiss three hundred and sixty-five days. in the thick of it, my head was spinning with the busy-ness of our everyday lives. but, overall, my sense of the year is that it was a year of gentle ebb-and-flow. tide in; tide out. no hiccups or breath-holding or wild yodling. which is ab.so.
lutely o.k. this is what we looked like in the last few hours of the old year ~

so, that was the eve....and here is our day.

| Joseph blowing bubbles to welcome the new year |
 |
| a great surprise visit from Mom and Dad, on their way home from the mountains |

| i'm pretty sure Joseph is not quite this tall yet |
but what i will
really remember about new year's day (and the day after and the day after that) is playing monopoly with Joseph, who absolutely destroyed me every single time....even when i started with cards that should have secured me the game. i used to be so good at board games, too. maybe i was distracted by the
chocolate chip cookies, which Joseph decided to bring en masse to the game room.
Happy New Year!
