now, how does a daffodil bulb migrate to the middle of the backyard?
please tell me, if you know.
our street's namesake
camellias are tricky. they are really, really beautiful flowers - but they bruise so easily! the day after i took the photograph, this pristine white camellia had bruised fingerprints all over it from my handling. the other thing that is always so surprising is that (at least from what i can detect) camellias have no scent. nada. zero. zilch. they are completely non-fragrant. which i find incredibly disappointing. it's a good thing they're so darn pretty.

in a previous post, i mentioned the delightful visiting lilac from our neighbor's yard. it had bent over from the ice & not been righted. several lilac buds were turning purple, & i was coveting them. well, sadly, it was yanked from the ground and tossed to the curb. i looked to see if it was salvageable; alas, it was broken off at the root. i tend not to think this was a lesson in coveting thy neighbor's lilacs.
our lilac, on the other hand, is only putting out green leaves.
not a single lilac bud on the entire plant.
i came out to my car this morning & found a fine, yellow dust
had settled in over the night or early morning.
ah, pollen, i have (not) missed you.
