frequencies

we do a few things frequently & some things much less so.  these blog posts, as social media tends to do, often focus on the infrequencies.  those (debatably) lend themselves to more interesting narratives & are often simply more memorable to me.  but, really, most of our family life is filled with comforting routines.  such as, watching sports on the television.  i am usually a walk-through, on my way to other rooms (the laundry room is to the left; the kitchen is to the right), although i will occasionally sit down to see the 'big game' (which, apparently, occurs nightly).

sports.  they're in between basketball seasons right now, but these two teenagers play sports essentially year-round.  the preferred organized sports these days seem to be running and basketball.  but they've done just about everything at one point or another.  (popular unorganized sports are the usual:  football, basketball, &, of course, ping-pong - the only sport which i can currently be persuaded to play.  & i confess to, occasionally, vocalizing in ways that might be described as a squeal or a screech, even in response to this rather tame game.)

homework.  seven days a week for the tenth-grader.  this was documentation for a Latin extra-credit.  look at that kid finding those Ionic columns!

music.  two trumpets and a piano.  occasionally a guitar, recorder, slide whistle, or electric keyboard.  my rusty piano skills are occasionally put to use (as demonstrated below), but please do not ask me to play two hands together with any semblance of rhythm.  i never was very good at that.

speaking of trumpets.  sometimes you have to fix them.  luckily, it was Mike's instrument of choice back in the day, so i leave it all to him!

work.  i'm just lucky mine involves things that resemble toys
(and things that are, in fact, toys).
i think i may own every single kind of crayon
that has ever been invented.
seriously.
ooooh!  new pencil grips!

so, i feel that, maybe, i've left you with another post that is about infrequencies.  well, not really.  these really are things we do all the time.  it is all in how you tell the story, right?  maybe i'll do an entire post on my daily attempt (read: failed attempt) to produce a delightful, nutritious, and never-boring evening repast for my clan.  rather than just telling them "good luck.  i'm not sure what's in the fridge."  or i could do a photo montage of the endless laundry cycle: wash, dry, fold, wear; wash, dry, fold, wear.  i swear, there is laundry in just about every room of our house in various stages of being "put away."  or the monotony of weekday mornings.  alarm, shower, dress, rouse teenagers, make 'breakfast' (please see previous discussion of the evening repast), rouse teenagers, pack lunches, rouse teenagers.  did i mention, rouse teenagers?  well, you get the idea.  the majority of our day is a series of routines - thank goodness!  i don't think i could stand it any other way.
