atl & mlk

by the light of the moon,
we set our course
for southern(er) parts.
 while the horrendous Atlanta traffic
did not disappoint,
we glided right into a parking space
what a fun, vibrant place!
we enjoyed a very tasty lunch
and a too-quick visit
with my college friend Vivian
& her husband, John (not pictured).
 then we 4 departed
to explore some sites
from Martin Luther King, Jr's life
on nearby Jackson Street.
there were several large murals
on the buildings along our walk

i thought this sign was revolving on purpose
(how cool!);
however, my teens decided
it was just the wind.
i'm sure you can hear my disappointment.

across the street.
 Auburn Avenue murals

i was excited about the streetcar;
the boys (as you can hear)
were excited about wok-n-roll
(which they bemoan the closing of in our own town).

another mural
 which brought us to
the church where MLK Jr. grew up.
there was an MLKJr interpreter
at the church
who gave the famous
I Have a Dream
speech.
it was beautiful & sad...
because it's still a bit of a dream.

MLKJr's funeral was here,
and the clock is forever stopped
at that time.

we went across the street to the MLKJr museum, too.

 his Eternal Flame
& the graves

after a very quick car tour of downtown Atlanta,
we continued (or tried to)
on our way south.
the old-fashioned way of navigation.
