the backstory

my husband is always
coming up with something interesting
for us to do.
sometimes i say 'yes.'
we have this great theatre company in town
called Triad Stage.
i really credit them
with turning around our downtown
about ten years ago.
they were the first SPARK.
there is a play running in the Pyrle Theater
just about every day or night of the year.
right now, it is the mystical Radiunt Abundunt,
written by Preston Lane,
co-founder & artistic director
of Triad Stage.
this weekend, they opened the doors
of their production facility,
so we got a backstage peek
at how they build sets, props, and costumes!

we took Joseph with us,
and some of these photos are his -
like this one.
dusty song selections
just inside the front door,
you are greeted by a rainbow wall of fabric bolts.
 very quickly,
we ran into Rich Whittington,
the managing director (and other co-founder)
of Triad Stage,
and he chatted with us a bit
about the current production.

essential bits-and-bobs, like hot water bottles & l'eggs pantyhose

in case you need a suckling pig

swoon. hardware.

dead faint. workshop.
it was like a Goodwill gone wild.

a Goodwill with a weapons room.

just in case you need to blow up a boat while you escape in your life-preserver.

or don't know which way to go.

or really dig the color chartreuse.
this one
just because
of the sun.

wonder if they are as comfortable as they are groovy
 and, then, upstairs....
the costume makers!

dang. this does not look good.

the 'primitive' art used in Radiunt Abundunt....plus a lunchbox & telephone to take with you on your journey.
such clear memories of laying out fabric on the kitchen table,
pinning the paper-thin pattern strategically,
then using the pinking shears to crunch-crunch-crunch
cut carefully along the lines.
pure ecstasy...if you're into this kind of thing.

there is creation.
