other peoples' gardens

a garden tour
with me
is
sloooooooow
going
 flowers may be more favorite
 than octopuses for me
 & that's saying
 a lot
 don't be fooled
 my own garden
is an overgrown
periwinkle tangle
with vines of all sorts
trying to reach the sky
 and oak-tree-wannabe's
that hope i grow weary
before my pruning shears
reach their stems
 i have been unable
(unwilling?)
to maintain the crisp hosta borders
of fifteen years ago
 when we inherited the yard
from a gardener whose penchant for pink
remains a legacy for us
though the golf-green lawn
is barely a memory
 the weather this year
has not cooperated with my available time -
rain through the winter &
now hot before it's truly summer
 so this garden tour
on this day,
when my own yard is still waiting,
 was deflating, really
and when that is the lingering sentiment
 it is most definitely time
 for summer vacation
(i'm lucky i have one)
when i feel certain i'll remember
 and reconnect
with my life beyond those things i'm paid to do
(and really will enjoy again...in August)
 i'm very very very ready.
but between now and then are
eight
more
days
