celebrating Light

the weather was dreary leading up to our city's Festival of Lights, and we were muddy from raking wet leaves (the leaf trucks are coming!).  but we tidied ourselves up (enough) and headed downtown with the throngs of fellow revelers.  i still am not quite used to the fact that it is now almost impossible to find a parking space downtown on these occasions.  just a handful of years ago, this was not the case.  it is wonderful!  yay!  i love my town ~
Elm Street, view from the top of the hill at the railroad tracks
there were lots of lovely window displays,
all sparkly and twinkly.
i especially liked this suspended blue tinsel tree

not sure how many people looked up and noticed this...
someone was projecting The Christmas Story
and, later, The Grinch - fantastic!

one of our favorite musical groups
at this annual festivity
is the UNCG Tuba Band -
nothing better!
brought some amazing
street puppets!

Father Time

random photo from the evening, but i believe this is almost identical to the perambulator (pram is the shortened term for that very technical label) which was my chariot as a wee babe.  i also wore sun bonnets.

always a treat to see a Statue Woman.
this year, she was a drummer!
she drummed fairly constantly,
as people kept tossing coins
into her silver urn.

still plenty of storefronts that need renovation.
not on Elm Street, but one of my very favorite buildings downtown - home of the Rhino Times.
