a few loose ends before heading home

We feel the need to return to Glacier.  There's so much we didn't see.  The Going to the Sun Road was still unopened on the day we left due to a very late snowfall this year.  When I planned the dates for our trip, I had looked at when that road typically opens - and felt we were just barely in the 'safe' zone.  Alas.

Fortunately, we were staying in the (I think) ultimate area of the park (I say this without having seen any of the others), so we had plenty to do in Many Glacier - but I would really like to visit more of the park!  And go on some longer hikes...with rangers...& large groups of fellow humans.  Doubt the FOB will ever much diminish for me.

The last evening, we went to a lovely ranger-led program at the Swiftcurrent Campground that featured a Blackfoot Indian, Ernie Heavy Runner.  He spent the better part of an hour telling us mythstories from his grandmother.  It definitely required a suspension of belief - which turned out to be a little confusing for our kids because the storyteller conveyed these tales as non-fiction.  They are.  And they are not.  At the end, he and his friend got out their guitars and played an original song about a war horse.

i never tired of the flowers (although you may be a tad weary of them...)
i did tire of being so watchful for bears.

our first stop was at the gas station and general store in Babb, Montana.

it was bittersweet to head home,
but the trip wasn't done yet!
