we arrived in Springfield, Illinois, at noonish,
nabbed four tickets on the 2:30 tour of Lincoln's home,
and immediately took ourselves to lunch
in air-conditioning.

the National Parks Service runs this four-block section of town, preserved to resemble what it looked like when Abraham Lincoln lived there with his young family. we enjoyed a short tour of his home.

on our way out of town (destination for the night was Dayton, Ohio!),
we stopped at Lincoln's grave,
which is an appropriately impressive monument.
