Lincoln's Springfield

we arrived in Springfield, Illinois, at noonish,
nabbed four tickets on the 2:30 tour of Lincoln's home,
and immediately took ourselves to lunch
in air-conditioning.
Lincoln's Springfield Home
the National Parks Service runs this four-block section of town, preserved to resemble what it looked like when Abraham Lincoln lived there with his young family.  we enjoyed a short tour of his home.
the front parlor.
dining room.
family's living room

Mary Lincoln's sewing kit.
hair wreath!  not the Lincoln's, but of the era.
photo by Mike, who knew i would be interested!

Lincoln's favorite desk.
shaving mirror.
detail of pillowcase.
another hair wreath (again, not Lincoln's).

a three-seater.  interesting.  they used barrels due to the hoop skirts women wore....
at least it's a room with a view.

ranger said they could try one while his back was turned.
so they did.

impromptu appleball
on our way out of town (destination for the night was Dayton, Ohio!),
we stopped at Lincoln's grave,
which is an appropriately impressive monument.
