we really exhausted our museum endurance yesterday
(though what a great museum!)
& were glad for an outside, wandering day!
we started off at Porto Rico, on nearby St. Mark's Place
(for some beans to take home!)
then walked around the corner to....
Le Fournil...of course!
aaaaahhhhhh!!!
it was 34 degrees out, but we
SAT OUTSIDE & ATE FRENCH PASTRIES
yes, we did!
surprisingly, they do not sell coffee
(but they do sell apricot juice...yum!),
so hubby walked back to Porto Rico
(plus my apricot juice)
& a croissant & a cherry twist
(then i went back inside and bought a few more items,
then walked towards uptown
(general goal was the impressive NY Public Library)
Omicron was really surging,
and a good number of independent businesses
were shuttered as employees tested positive.
we saw our much-delayed test results
from Monday finally....negative,
which did not surprise us
but was completely unhelpful.
on the way uptown, we stopped in at
(whose mission it is to
"stimulate, foster, and promote public interest
in the arts and to educate the American people
in the fine arts."),
situated on Gramercy Square
("Tradition Reimagined" / "Effortless Luxury")
honestly, it was not on our radar
(had never heard of it!)
except that i plugged in our walking route
to google maps & searched for
free & unique things to do along the way.
& we hit the jackpot!
i think the security guard suspected
we were only coming in to use the bathroom
(which was definitely a bonus),
but we really were there for the art!
we were only permitted in a small section
of the Club, but we could poke our head
(and camera) into some of the fancy rooms
& ooooh-aaaaah in our heads
(but play it totally tourist cool outloud)
here's what we were allowed to see:
there was also another exhibit,
which we perused:
this one seemed to be just
permanent wall decoration
it is a beautiful building, too!
formerly the Samuel Tilden Mansion,
built in the 1840's.
it was and is pretty fancy!
totally enjoyable! highly recommend!
